Himanta Biswa Sarma declares intention to arrest Rahul Gandhi post Lok Sabha elections
The police spontaneously acknowledged reported violence during Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra and filed an FIR against numerous Congress leaders.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Wednesday that Rahul Gandhi would face arrest after the current year’s Lok Sabha elections. The Congress leader, currently undertaking the ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ in Assam, is under police scrutiny for allegedly inciting “unlawful acts of violence” in the state.
“We’ve lodged an FIR. An SIT will investigate, and Rahul Gandhi will face arrest post Lok Sabha elections,” Sarma stated during an event in Nazira, Sibsagar district.
The Lok Sabha elections are anticipated to take place before May of this year.
Why Assam Police registered FIR against Rahul Gandhi?
The Assam police, on their own initiative, acknowledged reported violence during Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra and filed an FIR against numerous Congress leaders. Sections related to criminal conspiracy, unlawful assembly, rioting, assault on public servants, damage to public property, and more have been applied. Director General of Police G P Singh mentioned that the case has been handed over to the Assam CID.
Himanta Biswa Sarma directed the filing of an FIR against Gandhi, accusing him of inciting the crowd to breach barricades and enter Guwahati on Tuesday.
In the altercation, numerous Congress leaders, workers, and four police personnel sustained minor injuries.
The Assam government stated that Congress workers were instructed to use a highway to reach Kamrup (Rural) district, but they attempted to take the Guwahati route.
On Monday, Sarma urged Gandhi to avoid visiting the birthplace of Assamese icon Srimanta Sankardeva in Nagaon district due to Ram Temple festivities. Subsequently, Gandhi was prevented from visiting the shrine.
Rahul Gandhi dares BJP, Himanta Biswa Sarma
Today, Rahul Gandhi challenged the Assam government to file as many cases as possible against him.
“I’m unsure how Himanta Biswa Sarma believes he can intimidate me with legal actions… Go ahead, file 25 more cases. The BJP-RSS cannot intimidate me,” he stated.
Earlier today, in response to the Congress accusation that the Yatra was halted in Assam, Sarma remarked, “Did they travel from Nagaon to Barpeta using a rocket launcher? They were simply advised to take a different route, but they resorted to violent behavior, attacking on-duty public servants.”
Gandhi and Sarma have been engaging in verbal attacks for several days, labeling each other as cowardly and corrupt.
In a post on X, Sarma claimed Gandhi fled the city in his fancy bus.
”Interesting. After instigating Congress workers to orchestrate violence, Rahul Gandhi (who is on a Bus Yatra) quietly came out of his fancy bus and fled the city in a small car to Hajo, his next destination. Rahul has set a new standard for being a Darpok. Ha ha”.
