Ayodhya temple inauguration: What embellishes Lord Ram?
The 51-inch idol of Ram Lalla is adorned with ornaments meticulously crafted through extensive research and study, aligning with the scripturally accurate attire descriptions of Lord Ram.
A look at what the Ram Lalla idol has been adorned in.
Mukut
In the North Indian tradition, the crown, crafted from gold, is embellished with rubies, emeralds, and diamonds. Its center features an emblem of Surya Dev, and on the right, strands of pearls are intricately woven.
Tilak
A conventional tilak, crafted from diamonds and rubies, adorns the forehead.
Kundal
Fashioned to match the mukut, these earrings replicate its design and feature peacock motifs. They are adorned with gold, diamonds, rubies, and emeralds.
Kantha
Adorning the neck is a crescent-shaped necklace, meticulously adorned with gems. It showcases floral designs representing prosperity, with an image of Surya Dev in the center. Crafted from gold and embedded with diamonds, rubies, and emeralds, it is further enhanced by strands of hanging emeralds, enhancing its overall appearance.
Padika
A necklace positioned between the throat and navel holds divine significance in ornamentation. Comprising five strands crafted from diamonds and emeralds, it includes a sizable, intricately designed pendant.
Mudrika
Both hands are adorned with rings embellished with gems and featuring dangling pearls.
Kangan
Beautiful gem-studded bangles are worn on both hands.
Kanch or Kardhani
Encircling the waist is a waistband adorned with gems, crafted from gold and adorned with diamonds, rubies, pearls, and emeralds. It includes small bells symbolizing purity, along with hanging strands of pearls, rubies, and emeralds.
Vaijayanti or Vijaymala
This represents the third and most extended necklace, crafted from gold and adorned with rubies at intervals. Worn as a symbol of triumph, it illustrates auspicious symbols in line with the Vaishnav tradition – the Sudarshan Chakra, Lotus, Shankh, and the Mangal Kalash. Additionally, it is embellished with flowers such as lotus, champa, parijat, kund, and tulsi.
Gold Bow
The left hand holds a gold bow adorned with pearls, rubies, and emeralds, while the right hand clasps a golden arrow.
Chhada or Painjaniya
Gem-studded anklets and toe rings, embedded with diamonds and rubies, along with golden ankle bells, adorn the feet.
At the feet
Beneath the idol’s feet lies an adorned lotus, with a arranged gold garland.
Attire
The idol is adorned with Banarasi fabric, donning a yellow dhoti and a red pataka/angavastram. These garments are embellished with pure gold zari and threads, showcasing auspicious Vaishnav symbols such as Shankh, Padma, Chakra, and Mayur. Textile designer Manish Tripathi, working from Ayodhya Dham, crafted these garments.
Kaustubha Mani
Adorning the chest is the Kaustubha Mani, adorned with a sizable ruby and diamonds. The inclusion of the Kaustubha Mani is rooted in the scriptural tradition, where Lord Vishnu and his incarnations wear it at their heart.
Bhujbandh
Adorning both arms are armlets, embellished with gold and precious stones.
Garland
Around the idol’s neck is a garland adorned with vibrant floral patterns.
Toys
As the idol represents the form of a five-year-old child (Ram Lalla), traditional silver toys such as a rattle, elephant, horse, camel, toy cart, and spinning top are placed.
Umbrella
The idol’s halo is adorned with a splendid golden umbrella.
