On day 5, HanuMan surpasses Guntur Kaaram, crosses Rs 100 crore globally
HanuMan, a Telugu mythological superhero film, surpasses Guntur Kaaram in daily collections, despite a smaller budget, absence of major stars, and a novice director, thanks to positive word-of-mouth, despite opening at around a fifth of Guntur Kaaram’s first-day earnings.
HanuMan, on its fifth day, garnered Rs 12.75 crore, as reported by industry tracker Sacnilk. The film, which initially opened at Rs 8 crore, demonstrated an upturn in weekend collections. On the fourth day, a Monday, it achieved Rs 15 crore, indicating a marginal 5% decrease from Sunday’s earnings of Rs 16 crore. The cumulative domestic earnings for HanuMan now reach Rs 68 crore, suggesting a potential to reach the Rs 100 crore milestone domestically by either Friday or Saturday.
Prashanth Varma directs HanuMan, featuring Teja Sajja, which recorded a 68% occupancy on the fifth day for its Telugu version. The evening and night shows were particularly popular, registering a 70% occupancy. In Hyderabad and Vijayawada, the film experienced over 90% occupancy, while the Hindi version lagged with only 12% occupancy on day five, indicating a slower crossover. In contrast, Guntur Kaaram reportedly accumulated Rs 11 crore in India on the fifth day, bringing its domestic collections to Rs 94 crore.
Internationally, HanuMan has surpassed the Rs 100 crore milestone, as reported by trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan. Taking into account Tuesday’s domestic collections, the film’s total now exceeds Rs 112 crore. In its opening weekend at the US box office, HanuMan earned $2.3 million (Rs 19 crore) from a mere 430 screens, prompting its domestic distributor to expand the screen count, as per a Variety report. A sequel, titled Jai Hanuman, is purportedly scheduled for release in 2025.
