Harshal Patel, who is the leader in land grabbers in this year’s IPL, is about to break a great record in the T20 league.
Pacemaker Royal Challengers Bangalore, who has collected 30 wickets in the current season so far, is just three wickets away from breaking Dwayne Braves’ record for most wickets in a single IPL edition.
Bravo had won 32 wickets in 2013 while representing Chennai Super Kings. Harshal will be in action on Monday during the RCB tie against Kolkata Knight Riders.
The winner of that game will face the Delhi Capitals, who lost the first qualifying match to Chennai Super Kings on Sunday. Harshal had already broken the record for the most lands by an Indian in an IPL season. The closer passed Jasprit Bumrah, who had taken 27 wickets in the 2020 cash-rich league with a three-wicket drive against SunRisers Hyderabad.
Harshal has broken records in the current edition. He also pocketed the record for most wickets by an uncapped bowler in a season.
Harshal, who plays his domestic cricket for Haryana, is set to end the season with the Purple Cap. He currently has seven more wickets than Avesh Khan (23 wickets) who is second in the race for Purple Cap.
His prolific performances this season have seen many fans in India call for his inclusion in the India team for the upcoming T20 World Cup, to be held in the United Arab Emirates and Oman from October 17 to November 14.
Harshal did not make the cut in the 15-member team that India had named last month, nor among the three players named in the reserves.
