STC And Ericsson Partner To Power Grid Infrastructure With Renewable Energy.
STC and Ericsson partner on sustainability initiatives within the information and communication technology (ICT) industry.
stc and Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly explore sustainable initiatives to power the stc grid infrastructure with smart and renewable energy.
The association will further explore other green site solutions and information and communication technology (ICT) sustainability initiatives for the Kingdom.
As part of the partnership, Ericsson will use its expertise to provide the most energy efficient strategies to the stc grid to contribute positively to society.
In the first phase of the MoU, stc and Ericsson will deploy various sustainable site solutions that show how renewable energy can power the grids of the future. Collaborations will include the implementation of a solar hybrid site and initiatives to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, which will help preserve the environment. Saudi Vision 2030 calls for a mix of renewable and non-renewable energy sources to meet the growing demand for energy driven by growing networks and technologies.
The MoU aims to accelerate the step towards incorporating green innovation into grid operations in light of the expected increase in energy demand.
Abdulla Alkanhl, Director of Corporate Affairs at stc says: “stc has had a long tradition of adopting a progressive mindset towards the development and deployment of transformative technologies like 5G.
We continue to do this as part of our commitment to be Saudi Arabia’s digital enabler. With this new Memorandum of Understanding, we are once again working with Ericsson to push the boundaries of the ICT industry and focus on ensuring a sustainable and ecologically viable future, while providing our customers with connectivity unmatched in the Kingdom. ”
Mathias Johansson, Ericsson Vice President and Head of Middle East and Africa for Saudi Arabia and Egypt, says: “Ericsson’s wide range of solutions facilitate traffic growth and reduction of mobile network power consumption from the current level. Together with stc, we will work on the diversification of energy sources, the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions and the exploration of initiatives to operate networks with an efficient and intelligent energy perspective.
ICT has unique potential to enable progress towards a low carbon economy and we are happy to join forces with stc to help them achieve the sustainability ambitions of the Saudi Vision 2030. ”
