While the BJP has officially maintained a cautious silence on the matter, with the Uttar Pradesh government securing a thorough investigation, Varun Gandhi has expressed his empathy with the farmers.
BJP MP Varun Gandhi shared a video clip on Tuesday that allegedly showed a pickup truck running over farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri, and demanded that the police immediately identify and arrest those involved in the incident.
The authenticity of the video has not yet been verified.
“This video of vehicles deliberately crushing farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri will shake anyone’s soul.
Police must know the video, identify the owners of these vehicles and their occupants, identify others involved in the incident and arrest them immediately,” he said Gandhi.
Eight people were killed and several more injured Sunday in the bloodiest standoff since farmers ‘protests over the Centers’ farm laws began last year.
Four of the dead were farmers, allegedly run over by vehicles driven by BJP workers who were traveling to welcome Uttar Pradesh Chief Deputy Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya to an event in the area.
The others were BJP workers and their driver, who were allegedly pulled from the vehicles and lynched. Two cars caught fire.
