Viral Video: Air India Plane Crashes Under Gurugram Bridge Near Delhi Airport.
Air India said the aircraft had been canceled and sold.
An Air India plane trapped under a pedestrian bridge has become the topic of conversation on social media. Images that have gone hugely viral online show the plane wedged under a bridge near the Delhi airport.
The scrapped plane, which had no wings, was reportedly being transported when it got stuck on the Delhi-Gurugram highway.
The plane did not block all traffic on the route. In the video, vehicles can be seen passing by on one side of the road, while the other side appears to be largely blocked by the plane.
The video has been viewed and shared thousands of times on social media and messaging platforms like WhatsApp, with many wondering how the aircraft managed to get stuck in the first place.
In a statement Air India shared with News Agencies journalist, the airline said the aircraft had been canceled and sold. The buyer was transporting it Saturday night when it got stuck under the footbridge.
“This is an Air India classified scrapped aircraft that has been sold,” the statement read. “This was transported last night for the party. Air India has no connection to the aircraft under any circumstances. ”
A Delhi airport official also confirmed to the News Agencies that the plane did not belong to the airport’s fleet.
“The plane certainly does not belong to the Delhi airport fleet and in the video, it is transported without wings. It appears to be a scrapped plane and the driver may have made a mistake in transporting it,” the official said.
Surprisingly, this is not the first time passersby have been stumped upon seeing a plane stuck on a road.
In 2019, a truck carrying an abandoned India Post plane got stuck under a bridge in West Bengals Durgapur.
