The Government Notifies New Electricity Transmission Rules For Power Generation Companies.
Under the new rules, while seeking access to transmission, power plants will not have to specify their beneficiaries.
To facilitate better access to the national electricity transmission network for power generating companies, the government notified the 2021 Electricity Rules (Planning, Development and Recovery of the Transmission System of Interstate Transmission Charges).
According to the new rules, when seeking access to transmission, power plants will not have to specify their beneficiaries, but state power distribution and transmission companies will be able to buy electricity through short- and medium-term contracts and optimize their energy purchase expenses.
The new rules, in addition to giving generating companies access to the electricity transmission network, will also lead to a general change in the transmission system, according to a statement issued by the energy ministry.
From now on, power generation companies request long-term access (LTA) with transmission companies, depending on their supply agreements. Depending on the LTA application, additional or incremental transmission capacity is provided. With the growing push from governments to renewable energy, the need to change the current transmission system became a reality and thus the new rules were introduced, official sources said.
