India Registers 26,727 New Cases Of COVID-19, 13% More Than Yesterday.
Coronavirus update: India’s cumulative COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 89 million doses.
India reported 26,727 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, a 13 percent increase from yesterday, when the country had recorded 23,529 cases.
At least 277 deaths from coronavirus in the past 24 hours brought the death count to 4.48,339.

The total number of coronavirus cases has reached 3,37,66,707 in India, but active cases comprise 0.82% of total infections, the lowest since March 2020; the number of active cases at present is 2.75,224, the lowest in 196 days.
The national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 97.86 percent, the highest since March 2020. At least 28,246 recoveries in the last 24 hours brought the total number of recoveries to 3,30,43,144 in India.
The daily rate of positivity (number of positive cases identified per 100) stands at 1.76 percent, less than 3 percent in the last 32 days. The weekly positivity rate stands at 1.70 percent. India’s cumulative COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 89 million doses: 69% of the country’s adult population has received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 25% have taken both doses, it said government.
Kerala accounts for 52 percent of the accumulated active COVID-19 cases in the country, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare reported. The number of cases is declining in Kerala, but the state still contributes a substantial number of total cases in the country.
Kerala has the highest number of active cases – 1.44,000, which is 52% of the country’s total active cases. Maharashtra has 40,000 active cases, Tamil Nadu has 17,000, Mizoram has 16,800, Karnataka has 12,000 and Andhra Pradesh has just over 11,000 active cases, said Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan. Delhi recorded zero deaths due to COVID-19 and 47 new cases with a positivity rate of 0.06 percent; the number of active cases is now 400.
Maharashtra reported 3,063 new COVID-19 cases and 56 deaths, bringing the infection count to 65,50,856 and the death count to 1,39,067.
At least 30 students from the King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEM) for civic management in Mumbai, Maharashtra, tested positive for COVID-19. Of these, 28 students were fully vaccinated against the disease.
West Bengal has extended the current Covid restrictions until October 30, but allowed the movement of people and vehicles at night during the Durga Puja festival from October 10 to 20. Bengals COVID-19 count increased to 15,69,070 as 749 more people tested positive, while 15 recent deaths brought the state’s coronavirus death count to 18,793.
