“Netflix, Make Web Series”: How Twitter Reacted to Navjot Sidhus Shocker.
After the Navjot Singh Sidhus news broke, even when social media users came up with a single line and memes to express surprise, many criticized the leaders of Congress.
Navjot Singh Sidhu remained the main trend on Twitter on Tuesday after his surprising decision to step down as head of the Punjab Congress. The cricketer-turned-politician announced his resignation on his Twitter account where he also claimed that he would remain in Congress. After the news broke, even when social media users came up with a single line and memes to express their surprise, many criticized the leaders of Congress.
Former congressional spokesman Sanjay Jha said “someone in Delhi needs to be fired” because of the tumultuous turns of events in the party’s Punjab unit.
BJP spokesman Gaurav Goel said Congress is now a “leaderless” party. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAM) in Punjab said that the Indian National Congress has become “Indian National Circus”.
On a lighter note, another user asked for a Netflix web series to break down what exactly was going on in Punjab politics.
Hundreds of memes also circulated online. People joked about how Mr. Sidhu could return to The Kapil Sharma Show and get his job back from him. They also shared memes about actor and TV personality Archana Puran Singh and imagined his funny reaction to the news.
Sidhu, 57, announced his resignation shortly after the assignment of portfolios to the new cabinet ministers of Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channis. He was appointed chairman of the party’s state unit on July 18 amid a bitter power dispute with Amarinder Singh, who resigned as chief minister 10 days ago while accusing the party’s high command of humiliating him.
