“The Best Person To Do This”: The Supreme Court Will Pay Attention To The Safety Of Judges.
The Murder of Jharkhand judge: The Supreme Court, which handled the case on its own, also warned states not to submit reports on the status of judges’ security measures.
The Supreme Court today asked the center to take measures to protect the safety of judges and stated that this issue should not be dealt with only by the states. The court was hearing the murder case of the Jharkhand district judge last month.
“States are painting a ruddy picture on advances being taken. However, in spite of that, (there are) rehashed occurrences of assaults on legal officials,” the Supreme Court.
“States (are) refering to absence of CCTV reserves. However, those will just record the wrongdoing. They can’t keep a criminal from assaulting and can’t forestall dangers.”
The court additionally allowed states seven days’ an ideal opportunity to do as such and an admonition of ₹ 1 lakh fine they don’t present a status report in seven days. Chief Secretaries should be available for the following hearing if states don’t present their reports in seven days, the Supreme Court said.
Area judge Uttam Anand, 49, was killed on July 28 when an auto slammed him while he was on his morning walk.
The result of what was initially considered to be a hit-and-run escape was far more sinister, because CCTV images that surfaced on the Internet showed that the car went straight to the judge along a desolate road and deliberately hit him.
At today’s Supreme Court hearing, when the center said that specific national coordination is needed for the safety of judges, the court said: “You are the best person to do this.”
In a previous hearing, the Chief Justice of India NV Ramana stated that when the lower court judges complained about threats, IWC and other investigative agencies “had not responded”.
