According to sources, more than 200 Indians, including personnel from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and paramilitary personnel responsible for their protection, have not yet been evacuated from the Afghan capital Kabul.
An Indian plane parked at the chaotic Kabul Airport. The source said, adding that the biggest concern is how to safely transport people from the Indian mission compound to the airport.
They said the Taliban imposed a curfew on the city. The Indians stranded in Kabul include about 100 soldiers from the India-Tibet Border Police (ITBP) who are responsible for protecting India’s mission in Afghanistan.
Thousands of desperate people broke into the runway the next morning when the Taliban took control of the city, hoping to leave the war-torn country.
Afghan airspace was closed to commercial flights. Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has left the country.
The source said that the Cabinet Secretary is meeting with officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to develop a detailed evacuation plan, which is already in progress.
