Can Artificial Intelligence Replace Lawyers? Researchers Said That Machine Learning Can Help Predict The Results Of Summary Judgments.
Researchers use linguistic analysis and machine learning techniques to predict legal outcomes.
On a typical day, lawyers investigate cases, write reports, or advise clients. However, thanks to artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), robots can now perform these complex tasks. Advances in artificial intelligence and machine learning have replaced jobs previously reserved for professionals and experienced individuals (such as lawyers). However, things may change soon.
According to a report published on the Social Science Research Network, the researchers stated that they have found a way to predict the outcome of the summary trial from the text of the reports of both parties. They use language analysis and machine learning techniques to do this. In short, they try to automate some of the work that lawyers do through the use of software. The researchers said in the research abstract: “We have proposed a free access, computing support, citation identification and short banking tool that will extend the benefits of good advocacy to all litigants and improve access to justice.”
Two of the three study authors, Elizabeth C. Tippett (Associate Professor of Law at the University of Oregon) and Charlotte Alexander (Associate Professor of Law and Analysis at Georgia State University), also wrote a long article published by The Conversation explaining the importance of you Research.
This technique can help lawyers reduce their workload. It can further help clients because they do not have to seek expensive legal aid to cite the right case as a precedent for their legal affairs. The researchers said that their software can easily select the right case to quote and tell the lawyer. All one person has to do is to enter the other party’s summary into the software.
If the difficult part of the job is automated, it can have a big impact on productivity. In addition, automation can reduce the cost of legal services and make them more accessible and affordable for many people.
