The Indian women’s hockey team reached the semifinals in Tokyo, which surprised Australia. India held the lead through Gurjit Kaur in the second quarter as she showed strong defensive ability to stop Australian women. In terms of shooting, Indians Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar and Sanjeev Rajput started their round with the aim of making up for India’s disappointing shooting results in Tokyo so far, as they started in the men’s 50m 3 rifle category. Sprinter Dutee Chand achieved the best result of the season but still failed to qualify for the women’s 200m semi-finals. He created a time of 23.85 seconds, and ranked last in the Heat 4. Equestrian athlete Fouaad Mirza will also participate in the competition. Kamalpreet Kaur will compete for the medal in the women’s discus final on Monday.
