The Indian Government Requires iPhone And iPad Users To Update Their Devices Immediately-That’s Why.
iOS 14.7.1 and iPadOS 14.7.1 come with a serious memory corruption bug fix.
The official government IT security organization CERT-In (Computer Emergency Response Team of India) has asked Apple users to urgently upgrade their iPhone and iPad devices to the latest version. iOS 14.7.1 and iPadOS 14.7.1 were released earlier this week and fixed critical bugs. These updates fix a zero-day memory corruption vulnerability, and the government confirms that the vulnerability is being widely exploited. CERT-In stated that successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities could allow an attacker with kernel privileges to execute arbitrary code and gain elevated privileges on the target system.
CERT-In has issued a security alert to all iPhone and iPad users, urging them to update to the latest versions of iOS 14.7.1 and iPadOS 14.7.1. Memory corruption issues will affect all iPhone 6s and newer models, all iPad Pro models, iPad Air 2 and newer models, 5th generation and newer iPad devices, iPad mini 4 and newer models, iPod Touch (7th Generation) and devices equipped with macOS Big Sur. This solution is also included in macOS Big Sur 11.5.1.
CERT-In stated that this memory corruption vulnerability can be exploited by attackers to execute malicious code and gain remote access. Due to memory corruption caused by improper memory handling, the vulnerability exists in the IOMobileFrameBuffer of iOS and Apple iPadOS. CERT-In stated that hackers with kernel privileges can use maliciously crafted applications to exploit this vulnerability. Government authorities urge that the vulnerability is being widely exploited and recommend that users urgently apply security patches.
For all users who have not updated iPhone and iPad models, they can update by going to Settings> General> Software Update and manually looking for the update to install. It is recommended that you keep the latest updates, especially if you use one of the above devices. Mac users can update to the latest version by going to System Preferences in the Apple menu and clicking Software Update.
