IPL betting racket busted, 2 held from hotel where teams were staying
A day after the Gujarat Lions and Delhi Daredevils IPL clashed here; police have captured three individuals who were supposedly running a wagering racket from inside a similar inn where the two groups were remaining.
The previous evening when the match was on at the Green Park stadium, the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) started activity on data that a wagering racket was being kept running from the Landmark Hotel, Senior Superintendent of Police, Kanpur, Akash Kulhari said.
Two individuals were captured from a room on the seventeenth floor of the city’s just five-star hotel, which is situated close to the stadium.
They have been recognized as Nayan Shah, a local of Maharashtra, and Vikas Kumar, who has a place with Pukhrayan from abutting Kanpur Dehat area, he said.
Ramesh Kumar, the third blamed in the racket, was captured from the Green Park stadium and functions as a sub-temporary worker in the money rich Indian Premier League (IPL), the SSP said.
As indicated by the police, Kumar used to remain at the stadium and send pitch reports to his two related at the inn.
In view of the contributions about the pitch, Shah and Vikas used to take the wagers, he stated, including close-shot photos of the pitch were found from the cell phone seized from Kumar.
Director of Police (City) Gaurav Grover said Rs 4.90 lakh, four cell phones and a tablet were recouped from the three men.
The trio is being questioned for different subtle elements, the SP stated, including the police were likewise attempting to discover how they got rooms in the inn where the cricketers were remaining.
