Proposed New Basin of ONGC to be shifted from Tripura to Assam
ONGC’s proposed new basin may be shifted from Agartala to Cachar in Assam, where initial work had already begun last year.
The board of the company is likely to take a decision on the upcoming 2nd basin of North East in the next 6 months.
Ved Prakash Mahawar, ONGC Director (onshore) stated that, Cachar has a lot of accrues, but the area is less explored. So we are looking at the possibility of setting up the basin in Cachar and may shift it from Agartala.
It was however clarified by him that, no final decision has yet been on shifting the proposed basin to Assam.
Mahawar also said that, “The Board may take the decision on the matter in the next 6 months.”
Last year, it was unveiled by the Director that ONGC was working on to launch a new basin in Agartala by the end of this year to focus more on exploration of oil and gas in the North East.
