Worldwide Box Office Dominated by Logan with $85.3 Million over the Weekend

“X-Men” spinoff “Logan” marked a strong entry into the weekend box office after opening with a massive $85.3 million in North American theatres, according to studio estimates.

The debut of Logan starring Hugh Jackman as Wolverine ranks among the biggest March openings ever and top R-rated debuts. Similar to “Deadpool”, the huge opening of “Logan” indicates that movie goers love less conventional comic book films.

‘Logan’ is to drama what ‘Deadpool’ was to comedy. The common thing about these movies is that, they are rated R and they’re quote-unquote comic book movies, according to Chris Aronson, Fox distribution chief.

Hugh Jackman has already stated that this will be last performance as Wolverine. “Logan” made for about $100 million and also sold $152.5 million in tickets overseas.

Aronson stated that, on a global scale, we have exceeded all pre-release expectations.

Last week’s No. 1 film, Jordan Peele’s horror sensation “Get Out” slid just 22 percent _ a small drop for any movie but particularly in the horror genre. The acclaimed Universal Pictures release, made for $5 million by Blumhouse Productions, dropped to second place but still grossed $26.1 million. Its 10-day total is $75 million.
