Amid Strict US Visa Norms, Europe could Present Working Opportunities to Indian Professionals
In the midst of the proposed changes in the US visa rules that might affect the movement of professionals from India and the decision of UK to tighten rules for foreign workforces, mainland Europe could be next destination for skilled Indians.
Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs in the European Parliament, David McAllister stated that, the European Union and India are seeking to expedite their Joint Declaration on Common Agenda on Migration.
McAllister told ET that the declaration calls for better organising and promoting regular migration at relevant skill levels and fostering well-managed mobility, including the enhanced issuance of visas.
The European Union and India are exploring opportunities to attract highly skilled workers, including technologists and scientists, managers and IT specialists, to strengthen mobility for these categories and foster innovation in a reciprocal manner which also includes possible grant of visas with long term validity, EU MP explained.
This month, India concluded social security arrangements with 2 EU members – Portugal and Germany, which will benefit the Indian workforce in these countries.
A senior EU official said, “India plays an important role in countering terror. India has made the significant contribution in peace-keeping initiatives. The country has been a victim of terror for long and now terror has reached European capitals. The 2 entities have a lot to cooperate to fight extremism including joint de-radicalisation initiatives.
