With Uber and Ola on Strike, Meru along with other Carpoolers Enjoy their Fair Share
Disruption of app-based taxi services like Uber and Ola in different cities like Delhi, Bengaluru and Hyderabad is forcing commuters to turn to other providers, ranging from carpooling services to taxi operators.
There has been a spike in the business of different operators like Meru Cabs, Jugnoo (auto aggregator), Revv (self drive platform) and Orahi (car pooling service) over the last week. However, experts are of the belief that, this will be a temporary migration. In Delhi-NCR, Meru Cabs has witnessed 2.5x uptick in its business after the start of the strike by Uber and Ola drivers in the region.
Chief Executive of Meru Cabs, Nilesh Sangoi stated that, there has been a sharp rise in the number of drivers signing with Meru Cabs. Since, majority of the taxi platforms are non-exclusive, the drivers are able to work for different companies at a time, he added. Meru Cabs which was running only radio taxis through its app, recently launched options of hatchbacks and sedan on their app. Till now, 3500 drivers have joined Meru Cabs in cities like Delhi and Mumbai.
Jugnoo also stated that, there has been a surge in the demand for autos after the strike by Uber and Ola drivers.
Though Uber was not available for any comment, an Ola spokesperson stated that, drivers are gradually getting back to work and the company is happy to see the situation improving.
