Google has a Go at Amazon by Introducing Voice Activated Shopping
On Thursday, Google announced that it was launching voice activated shopping through Home Speaker, a voice activated speaker powered by Google Assistant. This is a direct challenge to Alexa devices from Amazon.
Users will be able to order items by simply telling the speaker. Delivery of different items like paper towels, diapers or trash bags can be ordered from different participating retailers.
David Wang, Google Assistant product manager stated that, if stocking up on coffee or picking up pwer towels is in a person’s list, it can be considered done with Home Speaker. He also stated that, Google is introducing shopping with Google Assistant on Google Home to help people with a busy schedule shop conveniently without any hassles.
The newly introduced service ties with Google Express, whose US retailers include Whole Foods Market, Costco, PetSmart, Walgreens, Bed Bath & Beyond.
Consumers will be able to add payment info to their accounts in order to activate the voice activated shopping.
Wang also said that, this is just the beginning of what can be done for shopping with Google Assistant. The company will keep on introducing new features as well as enable purchases for other service and apps, he added.
