Google Eyes Buyout of Venture Capital Investors and Startups in India
Exploratory talks are in progress between Google and venture capital investors along with startups in India, based on reports by 3 people who are directly aware of the development. Google is planning to acquire or invest in Indian companies according to the statement of the 3 persons.
One of them stated that, 2 primary areas of focus are acqui-hires in hi-tech areas and products for the next billion internet users. Another person stated that, Google is least likely to invest in consumer based internet companies like online retailers.
Recently, Google hired Seema Rao, Vice-President Avendus Capital to lead acquisitions and strategic investments, or corporate development, in Southeast Asia and India.
Google which aims to target the next billion internet users especially in towns or small cities, could acquire technology-enabled firms or make strategic investments, stated the 3 people mentioned earlier.
A spokesperson from Google India declined to comment on the investment plans of the internet giant in India.
