Union Minister Piyush Goyal says, 12,033 Villages Provided Power
Piyush Goyal, Union Minister stated that out of 18,452 un-eletrified villages, 12,033 has been provided power till the last week and the rest of the villages will get by May, 2018.
He addressed Lok Sabha stating that, till January, 2017, 4,220 DDG (Decentralised Distributed Generation) projects has been sanctioned costing around Rs 1,354.60 crore. The projects covered 3,285 un-electrified villages scattered across different states.
DDG is included under DDUGJY (Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojna) – aimed towards providing electricity access to different habitations and villages.
The Minister said that, on 1st April 2016, there were 18,452 un-electrified villages in India. Of these, 12,033 have so far received electricity till February 06 2017. In a separate statement, he said that the government is working towards coal imports reduction and the step has definitely assisted with foreign exchange savings.
