Power Distribution Franchise Won by CESC in Bikaner
Part of RP-Sanjeev Goenka Group, CESC has been able to grab power distribution franchise for the city of Bikaner in Rajasthan. An investment of Rs 135 crore will be invested in 3 years in the network by CESC and it hopes to have a turnover of Rs 400 crore.
This happens to be the 3rd distribution operation of the group in Rajasthan. The two other distribution centers are Bharatpur and Kota and CESC expects to earn 1,200 crore from the 3 cities.
Presently, Rs 800 crore is earned by CESC from Kota and Bharatpur. On top of that, CESC expects to earn Rs 400 crore from Bikaner. Within 2 years, the entire CESC distribution business is expected to turn profitable.
The Chairman of CESC, Sanjiv Goenka stated that in three years Rs 135 crore will be invested to ramp up metering and distribution network. In Bikaner, power distribution suffers from a net loss which CESC would hope to turn around in 2 years, he added.
He also stated that, the distribution franchise in Bikaner city is spread over 155 square kilometers which presently has 1.42 lakh consumers. Also, it suffers from a distribution and transmission loss of near about twenty four percent, he stated. Mr. Goenka said that, it would be a privilege to serve a population of 6.44 lakhs where the peak load has been calculated to be 130 MW.
