IT Firms from India to Meet U.S. President Trump Officials Regarding Visa Reform Concerns
IT sector leaders from India will meet officials and U.S. lawmakers from President Trump’s administration later on in February to lobby against major visa regulation changes that could severely hurt the $150 billion industry.
Nasscom Head, R. Chandrashekhar stated that finalisation of the visit are being discussed however, chief executives of big IT companies in India would be a part of the delegation that would visiting Washington in the 3rd week of February.
The software service industry of India is facing some concerns regarding the introduction of the bill in the United States Congress which seeks double salary for H1-B visa holders. Such a move would lead to dramatic increase in costs for Indian companies employing H1-B visa holders. The H1-B visa is used by IT companies to send engineers to the U.S. so as to serve the clients but few opponents in the U.S. are stating that the programme is being misused for replacing jobs in the U.S.
Mr. Chandrashekhar has told Reuters that the primary focus of the visit will be to emphasize on the economic partnership built between Indian and the United States.
Growth for leading Indian IT firms like Infosys, Wipro, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), etc. has been slow in 2016 following delayed spending by customers before the U.S. Presidential election.
Late last year, Indian IT players told Reuters that apart from speeding up local hiring, they are also targeting to acquire firms in the United States with local workforces and push the automation process to balance the regulatory threat.
