PM Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump to Speak Today and Build on US-India Ties
On Tuesday, January 24, 2017, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi will speak to recently elected President of the United States of America, Donald Trump to further facilitate Indo-US ties. The President will speak to the PM Narendra Modi at 11.30 p.m. IST according to reports released by the White House.
Narendra Modi had earlier spoken to Trump to offer his best wishes after he won the presidential election in November. Donald Trump beat Hillary Clinton in a knife-edge poll to become the 45th President of the United States of America.
Former Indian envoy to Washington, Nirupama Rao stated that India should reach out to Trump immediately so as to create a strong understanding which will be essential towards taking the relationship forward in different sectors of relevance. However, with Trump’s little substance on foreign policy and focus on ‘Buy American’ and ‘Hire American’, things don’t look to good for India.
Though, Trump has spoken positively of India but has also condemned outsourcing of jobs to India needs to stop. Trump also wants a restructure of the H1-B visa programme as well as freeze on new green cards.
