Three soldiers killed along LoC; Pak. troops mutilate one body
Tensions between India and Pakistan flared up once again on Tuesday with terrorists killing three soldiers on the Line of Control (LoC) and mutilating the body of one of the soldiers. In response, Indian Army warned of “heavy retribution” for the “cowardly act.”
Later in the day, Army sources said that Vice Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Bipin Rawat briefed Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on the incident and the prevailing situation there.
“Three soldiers killed in action on LoC in Machhal. Body of one soldier mutilated. Retribution will be heavy for this cowardly act,” the Army’s Northern Command tweeted.
Army sources said that there was an infiltration bid by a group of terrorists and they came across an Army counter infiltration patrol and ambushed them.
“Our forces were pinned down as the terrorists were provided cover fire by Pakistan at the same time in the form of ceasefire violations which also facilitated their escape,” one officer said.
This takes the toll on the side of security forces to 18 since the surgical strikes by the Army on September 29. This includes 13 Army personnel along the LoC and five personnel of the Border Security Force which guard the International Boundary (IB).
Similar incident in October
A similar mutilation incident was recently reported on October 29 in the same sector. Sepoy Mandeep Singh was killed in Machhal sector and his body was mutilated by a terrorist who fled across the LoC after the act.
The Army had warned that the “despicable act” would invite an “appropriate response” and the next day claimed to have destroyed four Pakistani posts in Keran sector along the LoC and “inflicted heavy casualties” in a massive fire assault.
