IS suspects worked as medical representatives
COIMBATORE: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) officials continued the questioning of seven youths suspected of being Islamic State(IS) sympathisers for the second straight day on Tuesday. Investigations revealed that six of them were working asmedical representatives in Coimbatore.
The suspects, hailing from G M Nagar at South Ukkadam in Coimbatore, became close friends during a business meet.
The NIA has seized a number of documents from the suspects and also questioned a computer service engineer who helped them to rectify some problems in their laptops. The Intelligence Bureau (IB) also passed on information they collected about other suspected IS sympathisers, including Abu Basheer from GM Nagar in Coimbatore, to the NIA.
Earlier, Abu Basheer had spilled the beans on his links in Coimbatore when questioned by the NIA. Based on his statements, NIA officials visited Coimbatore and picked up Nawas, a college student, Uvaisi Rahman, Niwas Khan and Safiyullah on Sunday night. The four youths were kept at the office of the special intelligence cell (SIC) in Coimbatore and were released after questioning. They were summoned to appear before the NIA officials on Monday . Next day , they were grilled till 10 pm.
