Girl commits suicide in Delhi after boy circulates photos on WhatsApp
Depressed over a man circulating her pictures on WhatsApp and even sending them to her family members, a 17-year-old girl from Ghaziabad, the daughter of a Uttar Pradesh Police Sub-Inspector, jumped to her death from the second floor of a mall in East Delhi’s Anand Vihar on Thursday.
In a purported suicide note, she wrote that she was depressed and sought apology from her parents. The depression, said the family, was caused by a boy making public pictures where both of them were seen together and even sending those picture to her parents. What remains unknown, however, is the identity of the boy as neither the suicide note mentions it nor the family knows him.
Investigations have revealed her father scolded her after seeing the pictures, something he has denied doing but said he was upset after looking at the pictures. After her disappearance and receiving a call on Thursday, the family also lodged a complaint against the boy based on which a case of abetment to suicide was registered at Ghaziabad’s Indirapuram police station.
‘Visibly depressed’
“She was visibly depressed. I asked her why did she not tell me about it earlier when she disclosed that she had even lodged a police complaint in Ghaziabad but had not told me about it,” said the father, adding that the details of that complaint were not known to him.
Asked about the status of the complaint and if that could have helped them track the accused, Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar said that there was no past complaint. Initial investigation has suggested that the girl was known to the boy but they had fallen apart which is why he made their images public. The girl left the house in the afternoon and crossed over to Delhi where she allegedly jumped from the second floor of the Cross River mall in East Delhi’s Anand Vihar around 7.15 p m, police said.
