Siwan journalist murder case: SC issues notice to Lalu’s son Tej Pratap and Shahabuddin
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday expressed concern over alleged politician-criminal nexus in Bihar and sought response from Nitish Kumar government in the Siwan journalist Rajdeo Ranjan murder case.The apex court was hearing a plea of slain scribe’s wife’s to transfer the case to Delhi, citing the fact that she will not get a fair trial in Bihar.
She contended that free and fair trial was not possible in Siwan and pleaded the SC to monitor the probe which has been handed over to the CBI.
A bench of justices Dipak Misra and C Nagappan agreed with her plea and asked the CBI to file status report in the case on October 17. The court also directed Siwan SP to provide police protection to her.
The court issued notice to Lalu Prasad’s elder son Tej Pratap who is the health minister of Bihar for allegedly protecting people who killed the journalist in Siwan.
The apex court also issued notice to Shahabuddin seeking his response over allegations that the journalist was killed on his instructions.
A picture of Tej Pratap with one of the accused wanted in the Rajdeo Ranjan murder case had went viral, prompting the opposition in Bihar to sharpen its attack on the ruling grand alliance.
The accused, Mohammad Kaif alias Bunty, is an associate of Shahabuddin and was seen in another set of pictures standing next to the murder convict when he was released from the Bhagalpur jail.
The Supreme Court also hinted that it may monitor the ongoing CBI probe in the case and directed the agency to file a status report by October 17.
