Heavy rains pound many parts of A.P.
Heavy rains crippled life across Andhra Pradesh on Thursday. A look at the ground situation in various parts of the State:
Guntur
Guntur district was battered by incessant rains, with Chilakaluripet, Gurazala, Narsaraopet, Piduguralla, Sattenapalli and Tenali towns and their surrounding areas reeling under the downpour. Vehicular movement between Guntur and Hyderabad was interrupted due to flooding.
Many parts of Palnadu area received heavy rain, which also caused flooding of railway tracks at a few places. Hyderabad-bound Palnadu Express was stopped at Reddygudem village in Rajupalem mandal. Similarly, Falaknuma Express was held up at Bellamkonda and Macherla passenger at Piduguralla.
Basavannavagu and Yerravagu streams have swollen, inundating the villages in their vicinity. A truck was caught in the swirling waters of Naguleru River near Dachepalli and efforts were under way to rescue the driver and the cleaner of the vehicle.
Kurnool city, Mahanandi and other towns in the district have received heavy rains during the last 24 hours. The Paleruvagu near Koilakuntla village overflowed due to the rain and low-lying areas in several villages were inundated. Traffic on the Nandyal-Ongole Highway was obstructed due to flooding.
Kakinada
Most parts of the East Godavari district received rain, causing water level at the Dowleswaram barrage to rise to 10.8 feet and the release of nearly two lakh cusecs water into the sea.
As the Met Department has forecast more rains, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has instructed Chief Secretary S.P. Tucker and district collectors to move people in the low-lying areas to safety and ensure necessary relief measures are taken without any delay.
