Teenage girl who got UP’s top bravery award tweets to CM: ‘Save me from harassment’
AGRA: Fifteen-year-old Nazia, who was given the Rani Laxmibai bravery award by chief minister Akhilesh Yadav in March this year for saving a six-year-old Hindu girl from kidnappers in August last, has appealed to the UP CM in a series of tweets to save her life from punters who indulged in matka gambling and were harassing her for taking on them. In July, she had filed a complaint against a group of punters operating near her house in Mantola locality of Agra. The girl accused the local cops of being hand in glove with her harassers. In a series of tweets to the UP CM, Nazia reminded him that he had encouraged her to bravely oppose crime, but her efforts to do so by complaining against a punter had instead led to her harassment.
In another tweet, she said that both the police and the punter were now harassing and defaming her. She also informed the CM that though the police had registered a case against the punter, he had not been arrested so far and her family was living under constant threat.
When contacted, SP (city) Sushil Dhule said an FIR was registered against the punters and their business has been stopped. He said he would look into the girl’s allegations and help her out.
