Rahul vs RSS case: Kapil Sibal collecting evidence to link Godse with Sangh
NEW DELHI: With Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi stating before the Supreme Court that he will go to trial for defaming the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS), evidence is now being collected to firmly link Nathuram Godse with the Sangh. Gandhi’s lawyer Kapil Sibal plans to demand a cross examination of Rajesh Kunte- a Maharashtra RSS worker who filed the defamation case against Congress vice-president for his comments on the Sangh. In a public meeting in 2014, Rahul Gandhi had said people associated with RSS had killed Gandhiji. While Gandhi’s legal team has already quoted from a book by Gandhiji’s grandson Tushar Gandhi, there is more in the pipeline. Excerpts from books by Mark Juergensmeyer, Manohar Malgaonkar, Shamsul Islam, Koenraad Elst among others are likely to be quoted during the upcoming court proceedings to prove Godse’s firm association with the RSS.
MP and Rahul Gandhi’s lawyers Kapil Sibal told ET that he would seek to cross examine Kunte and senior RSS functionaries to ‘expose’ the organisation. “This is a great opportunity to expose the double speak of RSS. We don’t believe they represent mainstream India…in the course of the trial, we will expose them and their antediluvian beliefs. We will cross examine Kunte and ask him questions that are uncomfortable and inconvenient which he will not be able to answer. As the trial continues, the levels of discomfort will also increase.
