Hitman followed childhood dream to be a don
NEW DELHI: “As a Class IX student of Modern Public School in Brijpuri, Delhi, I began using the internet to search for people associated with the underworld because I fancied becoming a mafia don,” says Junaid Choudhary, the man hired by Chhota Shakeel to assassinate a godman in Ghaziabad. The youth told his interrogators that he had realised in school that being even a local don helped in getting things done easily.
“I made a Facebook ID in the name of Suraj Chowdhary and searched for people with the name of Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar,” says the transcript of the questioning. “I sent a friend request to many IDs and began to chat with one named ‘D Company’. He asked me to arrange funds and come to Dubai. We also chatted on Whatsapp and exchanged calls.”
Choudhary told the cops that he saw reports of Chhota Rajan’s arrest in Bali and got Shakeel’s number from a news report on Youtube. “After calling him many times and messaging him too, he replied. He told me that people had to be ready to die in this profession,” the confession says. Having won his trust, Shakeel assigned the young man the task of killing godman Swami Chakrapani of Ghaziabad.
Shakeel initially did not respond to Choudhary’s calls and messages, probably thinking it was an Indian intelligence ruse. However, when the messages remained consistent and emotional, Shakeel spoke to Junaid. After learning that he was from Ghaziabad, Shakeel got interested in him.
Calls and messages to the number are routed from a Middle East country to Karachi, where the don is based at, and all communications are monitored by Indian establishments. Therefore, the don knew giving Choudhary a “real task” would be futile because their conversation would have been overheard. But perhaps to prove that he had a foothold in the capital, he asked the youth to shoot Chakrapani.
