Risk allowance to be doubled for policemen
Making a slew of announcements in the Assembly, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Monday said risk allowance would be doubled for police personnel.
Pointing out that at present the risk allowance ranges from Rs.200 to Rs. 3,000, depending on their posts and grades, Ms.Jayalalithaa said “this risk allowance will be doubled. The government will incur Rs.60.73 crore as additional expenditure.”
She also announced the enhancement of uniform and equipment maintenance allowance to police personnel.
The Chief Minister said for safety police personnel, 100 bullet proof jackets would be procured.
Under the scheme to modernise the police force, Ms. Jayalalithaa said vehicle-mounted baggage scanner, X-ray baggage scanners, explosive vapour detectors, mini-jammer, non-linear junction detectors would be procured soon. Multi-zone frame metal detectors, night vision binoculars, mine sweepers, bullet proof helmets, debugging scanners and digital video cameras would be given to the force, she added.
Closed circuit television with internet protocol (IP) cameras will be installed at 100 police stations.
Announcing that the police control room in Chennai city would be modernised, the Chief Minister said a “Command, Control, Communication and Intelligence (3ci) Operation Centre” will be set up at an estimated cost of Rs. 12.22 crore.
