NEW DELHI: Hours after actor Shah Rukh Khan tweeted about his detention at the Los Angeles airport, the US envoy has apologized “for the trouble”.
“Sorry for the trouble at LAX @iamsrk,” the US ambassador to India, Richard Verma, tweeted on Friday, adding that they are “working to ensure it doesn’t happen again”.
“Your work inspires millions, including in the US,” Verma wrote on Twitter.
Sorry for the trouble at LAX @iamsrk. We are working to ensure it doesn’t happen again. Your work inspires millions, including in the US.
The actor promptly replied to the tweet thanking him for the concern. “No trouble sir, respect the protocol & not expecting 2 b above it. It’s just a tad inconvenient. Thx for ur concern,” he wrote.

“I fully understand & respect security with the way the world is, but to be detained at US immigration every damn time really really sucks.”
“Sorry for the hassle at the airport, @iamsrk – even American diplomats get pulled for extra screening!”
Her Twitter account says that the tweets there “are my own”.
This was not the first instance that Khan was detained at an American airport by immigration officials.
In 2012, Shah Rukh Khan was detained at New York airport+ for over two hours by immigration officials. The US customs and border protection authorities had expressed “profound” apologies+ for the Shah Rukh Khan’s detention then.
“Whenever I start feeling too arrogant about myself, I always take a trip to America. The immigration guys kicked the star out of stardom,” Khan had said with some sarcasm about his detention.
In 2009 also, Khan was detained by US immigration officials+ at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey because his name came up on a computer alert list. He was asked several questions about the purpose of his visit. His hand baggage was checked. He was not allowed to even make a phone call for nearly an hour.
