Missing Kerala youths in Iran: police
The police team probing the missing of Keralite youths from Kasaragod and Palakkad has confirmed that some of them had reached Tehran, the capital of Iran.
In an affidavit submitted before the Principal District and Sessions Court, Ernakulam, the police submitted that Merin Jacob aka Mariam, who had gone missing with her husband Bestin Vincent aka Yahia, had departed to Tehran from Bengaluru airport on May 16 this year. Bestin had gone missing with his brother Bexan aka Easa and wife Nimisha aka Fathima.
The police now assume that many of the missing persons are currently in Tehran.
Meanwhile, the police also submitted that the name of Arshid Qureshi, arrested from Mumbai, had been mentioned in a message suspected to have been sent by Rashid Abdulla of Thrikkarippur to a relative. Abdulla had gone missing with his wife Ayisha aka Soniya. The message had references about Islamic State (IS) and Qureshi. In the message, Qureshi’s name has been mentioned as Arshid Bhai.
As part of the investigation, the sleuths have recorded the statement of Abdulla’s brother under Section 164 of Cr.PC which also mentions about Qureshi and the IS.
The investigations so far also have revealed that Shihas, another person who had gone missing from Kasaragod, had received a phone call from Kashmir, though the sleuths are yet to verify details of the call.
Custody extended
Meanwhile, the court on Monday sent Qureshi and his associate Rizwan Khan to the custody of the investigating team for ten more days till August 18.
Earlier, the police were granted the custody of the duo for 14 days.
