Ramkumar denies killing Swathi, attempting suicide
P. Ramkumar, the accused in the Swathi murder case, in his bail application filed before the principal district sessions court here, claimed that he did not kill her.
He also stated that he had not attempted to slit his throat and that some persons who accompanied the police during his arrest had assaulted him with a blade and then made up the suicide story.
Relying on the version of an alleged eyewitness who claimed that the deceased Swathi was assaulted by a person two days before the murder, Ramkumar’s counsel G. Krishnamoorthy said, “The police is screening the real offender by implicating the petitioner who is innocent and a poor person hailing from a village.”
Claiming that the petitioner was in no way connected with the crime, Mr. Krishnamoorthy alleged that the police had foisted a false case on him.
Assuring the court that he would cooperate with the investigation, and would not in any manner tamper with the prosecution witnesses, Ramkumar, who has been shifted to Puzhal prison from the Royapettah Government Hospital, asked the court to enlarge him on bail.
The bail application is likely to be heard this week.
