AAP apologizes for Golden Temple image on manifesto
Chandigarh: Facing flak from rival parties for using an image of the Golden Temple on its ‘Youth Manifesto’ for the 2017 Punjab assembly polls, AAP on Tuesday tendered an apology, saying it did not intend to “undermine any section of society”.
Chief of AAP’s ‘Punjab Dialogue’ campaign, Kanwar Sandhu, said, “Some people raised an objection against the cover page of the ‘Youth Manifesto’. We tender an apology to everyone whose sentiments were hurt and will ensure it does not happen again.” AAP leader Ashish Khetan added, “Inadvertently, I had expressed some words while releasing the manifesto for which I feel apologetic.” He said the party never “intended to undermine any section, community or any individual”. He had reportedly said that for the party, the manifesto was comparable to holy books. They were talking to newspersons at an interaction of AAP’s national convener Arvind Kejriwal with members of the SC/ST associations in Khanna on Tuesday.
Punjab BJP chief Vijay Kumar Sampla had demanded that Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and AAP’s leaders Ashish Khetan and Sanjay Singh apologize to all Punjabis and in particular to the Sikh community.
