Swathi murder case: Holes remain as police piece together a tale
Chennai: The city police are upbeat that they have solved Swathi murder case by arresting the suspect, P Ramkumar, from his house near Sengottai in Tirunelveli on Friday night.
However, there are many questions that remain unanswered.
Tamil Selvan, a college professor, who witnessed the brutal attack on Swathi on June 24, claimed that he saw the murderer from at least 50ft away on Nungambakkam railway station.
He confirmed to police that the person who slapped Swathi 10 days before she was hacked to death was a different person. Tamil Selvan said, he could identify the dark-complexioned man who attacked Swathi.
Police commissioner T K Rajendran addressing the media on Saturday said, “The killer is one person.” When some media people raised the question about the man who slapped Swathi at the station, the top brass of the city police declined to answer.
Another question is about Natesan, the security guard of a private firm, who shared room number 404 with the accused, Ramkumar, at A S Mansion on Eighth Street in Saurashtra Nagar in Choolaimedu.
Natesan is missing. However, a police source said, “Natesan is in police custody and he is one of the key witnesses in Swathi murder.”
Why didn’t he inform police about the suspect soon after a CCTV footage was released to media showing the accused and also during the door-to-door check? Police have pasted the CCTV grab showing Ramkumar in most of the vantage points in Choolaimedu and Nungambakkam.
On Friday when Ramkumar was nabbed in Sengottai, police sealed the mansion.
Another unanswered question revolves around Surya Prakash.
The name popped up only after Ramkumar spoke to police and doctors at the Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital in Palayamkottai on Sunday.
Ramkumar claimed that he got befriended with Swathi on Facebook after Surya Prakash introduced him to her. Also Surya Prakash approached Swathi on behalf of Ramkumar.Surya Prakash is no more on Ramkumar’s Facebook friend list. Who is Surya Prakash? “We are looking at all angles without leaving any possibilities,” police sources said.
