Main accused in NIA officer Tanzil Ahmad’s murder arrested
NOIDA: The Uttar Pradesh STF on Tuesday morning arrested the main accused, Muneer, in the murder of NIA officer Tanzil Ahmed from Noida-Ghaziabad border. The state police had declared a reward of Rs 2 lakh on his arrest.
Ahmad, an officer of National Investigation Agency (NIA), was attacked while coming back from a wedding. He was shot more than two dozen times by the criminals. The attack took place in the first week of April.Tanzil Ahmed was with his wife and two children when the attack took place late in Bijnor, Moradabad, some 125 kilometres from the national capital.
Tanzil’s wife Farzana had told the investigators that it was a planned attack and that the shooters were professionals and used automatic weapons. Farzana was also injured in the attack; gunmen pumped four bullets into her.Tanzil was rushed to a medical facility in Moradabad where he was pronounced dead, his wife was rushed to a hospital in Noida. She was later referred to AIIMS where she succumbed to injury after days of struggle.
Their two children – aged 8 and 10 years – had a narrow escape. They were in the back seat of the Wagon-R when it was attacked and watched the entire incident from there. Several investigating agencies had been trying to arrest the main accused. Police had already arrested at least five people associated with Muneer.
The police personnel have taken the accused for sustained interrogation.
