I’m not a gatecrasher, tweets Vijay Mallya
Vijay Mallya, declared a proclaimed offender in a money laundering case, said on Sunday that he was not a “gatecrasher,” suggesting thereby that he was invited to the book launch event here on Thursday. The function was also attended by Indian High Commissioner Navtej Sarna.
Mr. Sarna’s presence at the event where Mr. Mallya was spotted sparked a row, following which the Ministry of External Affairs on Saturday issued a clarification that the liquor businessman was not on the list of invitees. The MEA had said the High Commissioner left the stage and the venue immediately after making his comments when he spotted Mr. Mallya among the audience. The event was organised by the London School of Economics.
“Never gate-crashed in my life… I am not a gatecrasher and would never be one,” Mr. Mallya tweeted on Sunday.
