Admission process at DU begins today
A day before the registration process for admissions to Delhi University is set to begin, the university on Tuesday announced its admission policy for 2016-17.
The process remains more or less the same as last year, except that it has been moved entirely online.
The university said it will declare only five cut-off lists this year. After the cut-offs, if any seats are vacant, colleges will have to individually declare their number of seats and register students on their individual portal.
The registration process will close on June 19, after which the first cut-off list will be declared on June 27, followed by four more lists.
Go to college just once
“As instructed by the University Grants Commission (UGC) earlier this year, the university has decided to take the entire process online. This year, from the registration to payment of fee after admission, everything will be done on the web. The student will only have to go to the college once — at the time of the verification of documents before his/her admission is finalised,” Dean of Students’ Welfare, J.M. Khurana said.
“The students will have three days to complete the enrolment process following publication of each list. The merit lists for the remaining seats after admissions conclude for the fifth cut-off, will be announced by the colleges,” he added.
After registering themselves on the varsity’s portal, the students will be required to upload “self-attested and scanned” copies of their documents, and then make the payment online.
Pay fee online
After announcement of the cut-off list, the students will have to log on to their registered account and see the courses and colleges in which their percentage figures in the cut-off list, select the desired combination and then take a print out of the admission form.
The candidate will then be required to report to the college with the application form and original documents, which the admission committee of that college will verify and deposit the originals.
“An acknowledgment will be given to the student following which they will be required to pay the fee online and key in the acknowledgment number,” Mr. Khurana added.
However, a student who has already taken admission in the first cut-off list will not be able to secure a seat in another college in the second list without cancelling the previous admission.
In terms of calculation of the best-four, the formulae remains the same as last year, which means the student will lose 2.5 percent marks if they are seeking admission in a subject that they have not studied in Class-XII and inclusion of a vocational course, the student would lose 10 marks out of the total.
Open houses
The varsity will also hold an ‘open house’ for students and parents from June 1-11 at different locations during which any queries regarding the admission process may be taken up.
“We have dedicated phone lines and an email id for feedback. If the students have a problem with the process, they can write to us or call us and we will provide instant help. Apart from this, there will be open house sessions by individual colleges and by the university to help students,” said Delhi University’s spokesperson for admission Dr. Sunaina.
