Sikh minority colleges to come up with own cut-off lists
Starting this year, three Sikh minority colleges in Delhi University will come up with their own cut-off lists for admissions.
Till last year, two Christian minority institutions— St. Stephen’s College and Jesus and Mary College— were the only colleges in the varsity to follow such a practice.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the admission’s committee last week. A member of the committee said: “Four colleges including Sri Guru Nanak Dev Khalsa College, Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce, Mata Sundari College for Women and Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Khalsa College had applied for a separate merit list provision. However, an approval has been given to the first three,” said an official.
While the colleges will decide their own merit criteria, there will be no separate admission forms for these colleges, the official added. Officials say permission was not accorded to Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Khalsa College as one of its teachers objected to a minority status for the institution.
The matter is pending in court.
