History-sheeters attempt to kidnap widow
Three history-sheeters attempted to kidnap a 45-year-old widow when she was returning home from work on Sunday night.
Police said that the woman, who was working in a hotel in Tirunelveli Junction, was returning home at C.N. Village, situated nearby, around 8.30 p.m. on foot. When she was crossing Meenakshipuram railway level crossing, three persons waylaid her, stuffed her mouth with a cloth and took her to a secluded place. As she screamed for help, the three attacked her with a knife on the leg.
On hearing her cries for help, people in area rushed to the spot and rescued her from the three. She was taken to Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital for treatment for the injury she had sustained on the leg. During investigation, Tirunelveli Junction police found that S. Udaiyar (26) and S. Arumugam (26), both from C.N. Village, and M. Somasundram (25) of Vellamadam near Nagercoil, who is now living in Tirunelveli Junction – all involved in several heinous crimes – were involved in the crime. Police arrested Udaiyar and Somasundaram on Sunday night, and Arumugam on Monday.
