MUMBAI: In a stark reminder of the Sheena Bora murder case, the burnt body of an unidentified young woman, allegedly stuffed in a suitcase, was found in the jungle . of Dahanu on Wednesday.
The suitcase along with the charred body was found in the Sakra Ghat on the Vangaon-Kasa Road in Dahanu taluka. The burning suitcase was noticed by a local who happened to pass by the isolated jungle.
Vangaon police have registered a case of murder against unknown people. Police suspect that diesel was poured on the suitcase and it was set on fire in the wee hours of Wednesday. By the time police reached the spot, the suitcase and the body were reduced to ash.
However, pieces of the suitcase and clothes worn by the victim could be retrieved. Police said while the face of the victim was completely destroyed, a few strands of hair were still burning and a portion of her feet were intact. Investigators are looking for details on young women who may have gone missing from Mumbai, Thane and Palghar districts in the last couple of days. Remains of the body have been sent for testing.
Sheena was allegedly murdered by her mother Indrani Mukerjea and her body was later stuffed in a bag and set on fire in the jungles of Pen in Raigad district in April 2012.
