Will decide on floor test in Uttarakhand by Friday, Centre tells Supreme Court
NEW DELHI: The Centre on Wednesday told the Supreme Court that it is seriously considering the option of a floor test in the Uttarakhand assembly.
A day earlier the court had asked the centre to consider an SC-monitored floor test in the Uttarakhand assembly.
The apex court adjourned the hearing in the case to May 6 after the government sought 48 hours to make up its mind and inform the court about the feasibility of floor test.
Counsel for deposed chief minister Harish Rawat told the court that he was ready to prove his majority in assembly.
He accused the Centre of delaying the hearing in Supreme Court.
The top court, however, clarified that Harish Rawat’s government would not be restored before the floor test in the assembly.
The court had during the last hearing asked the Centre to consider SC-monitored floor test in the Uttarakhand assembly.
“I have conveyed the suggestion and have not received any instructions so far from government,” attorney general Mukul Rohatgi told the court.
The state is under President’s Rule after the top court stayed the Uttarakhand high court order reinstating the Harish Rawat government.
