AgustaWestland deal: BJP most welcome to make revelations, Sonia Gandhi says
NEW DELHI: Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday said the BJP is “most welcome” to present what it says are fresh revelations pertaining to the AgustaWestland chopper deal.
Parrikar seems ready to argue that the UPA government helped AgustaWestland win the Rs 3,600 crore deal by making changes in chopper specifications that were approved by then IAF chief S P Tyagi.
Sonia on Wednesday also told that there is no truth in a BJP allegation that her son Rahul’s aide, Kanishka Singh, is in any way connected to the chopper deal.
BJP leader Kirit Somaiya made that allegation on Tuesday.
The Congress went into a huddle on Tuesday to chalk out a strategy ahead of the defence minister’s statement.Parrikar is expected to argue aggressively about the UPA’s alleged complicity and also talk about UPA defence minister AK Antony’s allegedly hastily-written six-page note putting the Agusta deal “on hold” mere days before the 2014 Lok Sabha results were announced on May 16.
