Suicide at metro station
A young man died after he jumped before a metro train at Rohini West Station on Tuesday morning. This affected services on the Red Line (Dilshad Garden-Rithala) which remained disrupted for half an hour.
No note was found but the police are probing whether the fall was suicidal or accidental.
The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Jairam Paswan, a resident of lane number 32, in Outer Delhi’s Naharpur area. According to the police, the incident took place around 9.10 a.m. and the youth was rushed to Baba Saheb Ambedkar hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
“As told by the witnesses, he was spotted roaming at the platform for about 15 minutes. He jumped in front of a train heading towards Rithala. His parents were informed and the body was sent for post-mortem,” said a senior police officer.
He added that the deceased used to work as a snacks supplier for a local businessman.
Jairam is survived by his father Pawan Paswan, who is a rickshaw puller and mother.
“We are checking the CCTV footage of the station to ascertain whether it was a suicide or an accident.
Witnesses were also questioned to verify the sequence of events but nothing suspicious was found,” the officer said.
