Strong 7 magnitude earthquake strikes eastern Russia
MOSCOW: A strong 7-magnitude earthquake struck eastern Russia on Saturday, the US Geological Survey said.
The quake struck 109km (67 miles) north of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy, USGS said.
It struck at a relatively deep 153km.
There were no initial reports of damage or casualties.
The National and Pacific Tsunami Warning Centers said there was no risk it had caused a tsunami.
The earthquake struck in an area close to the “Ring of Fire”, an arc of fault lines that circle the Pacific Ocean which is prone to frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
